blue valentine

Love sucks. This is the truest portrait of a relationship I've yet seen put on screen. Ryan Gosling has quickly become my favorite actor. I heart Blue Valentine. Big time. Oh, and the music is by Grizzly Bear.

The Red Shoes

This is one of the most dazzling movies I've ever seen. It's not as dark as Black Swan, and no where near as fucked up, but it is about having way too much passion for dancing. Those ballerina's are fucking crazy! The hallucinatory 'red shoes' dance sequence is a work of art. The Technicolor pops! in every scene. I'm telling you... dancing is cool! and I hate dancing!

ATP

Sooooo I rented this a few nights ago, and damn if it isn't awesome. It's got so many great bands, but it's also a really fascinating documentary about the music festival. The opening set with Battles rocks! And the visual design of the film, a mashup of footage from fans, musicians and director Jonathan Caouette (Tarnation) is quite beautiful. Check this out!

Impossible Vacation

Ohhhhhhh.... Spalding, how I miss thee. I miss your crazy manic energy. I miss your books and your weird voice. I miss your super perverse sense of humor! I don't however miss your long hair, bad bad bad. But... still, why did you have to jump off that boat into the river? I mean I know why, I'm just feeling a little selfish and wish you were still here. If you are clueless as to who I'm talking about, I urge you to read Impossible Vacation and Sex and Death to the Age 14, funny funny shit. And watch the monologues! Particularly Terrors of Pleasure. R.I.P.
